McLaughlin Brothers set 30th Anniversary Concert

National touring artists, The McLaughlin Brothers, have announced a 30th Anniversary concert. The event will be Friday, July 19th, 2024 with tickets going on sale March 1st.

The McLaughlin Brothers traveled America singing gospel music for five years from 1994 to 1999. They have only performed together twice since they quit touring. During that time, they recorded eight albums and performed in churches and auditoriums across the country along with many of the biggest names in the genre, including Gold City, Greater Vision, The Weatherfords, and more. They also did an entire tour opening for The Legends of Gospel production with JD Sumner and The Stamps, Hovie Lister and The Statesmen, The James Blackwood Quartet, The Florida Boys, and Jake Hess.

The quartet began after singing at the funeral of their great uncle who was a pastor. There were many pastors in the audience who began contacting them to sing at their churches. After declining many invitations because they had never considered singing together, they eventually began accepting bookings to perform their unique arrangements on old-fashioned gospel music. They continued to expand regionally through word of mouth and eventually traveled nationally after being picked up by a booking agent.

The group began with youngest brother Scott McLaughlin on lead, middle brother David McLaughlin on bass, oldest brother Mark McLaughlin on tenor, and Mark’s wife, Kelly, on piano and soprano. They traveled and recorded three projects in their first year. Once the group began to pick up steam, Kelly was less interested in traveling. At that time, they held auditions for a baritone singer to make the transition to an all-male quartet. Jason Owen was hired and recorded five more projects with the group over the next several years.

Although the group enjoyed a busy schedule and accolades from many in the industry, the financial pressures of touring caused them to disband. Since then, the members have lived long distances apart and due to scheduling difficulties, future appearances were extremely limited.

At their upcoming concert to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their formation, they will be performing 30 songs over a couple hours with a live band provided by The Oklahoma Opry, where the quartet won Group of the Year twice in the nineties. They will be performing a mixture of their own favorite songs from their career as well as songs requested by fans on their Facebook page.

The concert will be held at Newchurch in Oklahoma City on Friday, July 19th, 2024 at 7 PM. Tickets go on sale through Eventbrite on March 1st at 2:00 PM at the link below. They are $12 if bought early, regular advance tickets are $15, and will also be available at the door for $20.
